I was on a webinar earlier today, and the subject of marketing came up. Here are a few thoughts I took away from it.
Marketing isn't just about putting out content regularly. It's about putting out content that solves a specific problem for a specific audience.
What that means is:
- you must narrowly define your target audience (ideal client), and;
- You must know what that person's big problem is (what makes their life or business a living hell?)
- You must know what this person would experience if this problem were solved (what is their heaven?)
Marketing isn't about you. It's about your clients.
Marketing must be intentional. Before you send out ANY communication, you absolutely must know the intention behind it. WHY are you sending it? What do you hope to achieve by sending this? What do you want recipients to do?
Marketing needs to be consistent and deliberate. When you market once-in-a-while, you're wasting lots of energy. Each time you put out a marketing message, you have to regain your audience's attention and awareness. The more frequently you do so, the less work that takes. If you establish a routine, your audience comes to expect to hear from you, and will actually think of you when they don't hear from you. THAT is your goal. You become a fixture in your market's minds.
